How many great authors are there writing today? Dozens, easy answer right?How many great authors’ books do I rush to my book store to buy as soon as they come out? I can count those on one hand, but the first finger to go up always has the same name.  Jim Butcher, author of the Dresden Files.

I love to read, and my favorite books are usually like good summer movies. Good story, lots of special effects, humor and lots of action. So, this is my recommendation for a rip roaring fun ride. Bad TV adaptaions aside, this book series rocks. Allow me to elaborate on the Dresden Files.

Harry Blackstone Copperfield Dresden is a private investigator, living in Chicago, who just happens to be a wizard. Craziness ensues. With stories running the gamut of supernatural baddies ranging from werewolves to shapeshifters, homicidal movie monsters to vengeful ghosts, three different flavors of vampires to the two faerie courts,  there’s plenty of bad stuff to run screaming from into the night. Also, there’s a very diverse supporting cast who never fail to elevate the story, while switching out kind of like a tag team, every few books or so. There’s a detecive and a gangster, soldiers of the church, and many others who orbit in and out of harry’s life.

So far there are thirteen books in this series, and Butcher has announced there would be over twenty books total in the series. A book a year means even for the those just getting started would almost be guaranteed to be caught up by the final book’s release. There’s a collection of various short stories being released this October,  every one i bought in the original collections, but will buy again for the new short story being included. I recommend starting with the first book in the Dresden Files, Storm Front, But the short stories would be a good place to try and see if u like it.

So if you are like me and enjoy lite and action packed stories, i urge you to pick up this series. For those of you who don’t like to read books, they have graphic novels………., just wanted to throw that out there. So support your local wizard, i know i will.
