Soma Bringer review for the Nintendo DS

soma bringerSoma Bringer – Nintendo DS
A title that was released in Japan that has not yet reached the US shores. This is a Nintendo DS version of all your favorite RPG games. I definitely recommend this game to any fan of Role-playing games. The story line is pretty average for an RPG, but its game mechanics and graphics make this title one to stick in your R4. It almost feels more like a mix between the computer games Bioware’s Baulders Gate and Blizzard’s Diablo. Being able to pick abilities, customize armor and level up attributes.

Story
In a world where the a magical energy source known as Soma drives the technology and daily lives of all its inhabitants, there lies a huge continent named Barnea. In recent years, the natural balance of Soma has been disrupted by the arrival of mysterious beings called Visitors. To investigate these occurrences, Secundady – the organization that regulates Soma in the world, creates a military division to deal with these Visitors – Pharzuph.

The story follows the seven members of the 7th Division of Pharzuph. What they discover on one of their missions will determine the fate of the world….

There are 6 different classes to choose from: your hack and slash: Barbarian(battlers) type, Assassin(kampfs) type. Then you have your Hybrid(caster/melee) characters: Paladin(corps) type, Darks[A spin on the Final Fantasy's Dark Knight]. And then your ranged characters which are pretty neat: Gunner(bow/gun combo) & Soma(which is your Wizard/Mage variant).

I played as a Darks(caster) the first time through the game. I gotta say that if you want a challenge I wouldn’t recommend this class(caster variant not sure about melee), because you completely wreck everything with Poison Gas and Nightmare.

I hope you enjoyed the review and I hope it psyched you into giving the game a try.

Cheers!
